Pheasant Trek is a culmination of generations coming together to produce Angus cattle that are consistent performers in the pasture, and the show ring.  It is with great pride that ours is a family operation based on years of knowledge and a passion for Angus cattle that has been transmitted from generation to generation.

The herd roots begin with Mercedes Danekas when at nine years old she decided she wanted to show Angus cattle in the junior shows, following in the footsteps of her father and mother.  When Mercedes turned fourteen the family decided it was time to step it up and really begin purchasing outstanding individuals for Mercedes for the show ring, but also cows that would begin to form the cornerstones of a foundation herd.  It was that decision that would lead them to the Weaver Angus Farm, in Peoria, Illinois.

The cows that were purchased year after year at the Weaver Angus Farms sale are thos cows that have established Pheasant Trek.  With strong genetics, combined with Mercedes energy and passion for the business, the ranch was off and running.  Partnering with her is her father James, whose heredity has Angus cattle on every side, hails from a long time Angus family in South Dakota.  James grew up showing Angus cattle and has never left the industry, along with Sherry, Mercedes mother; they own James Danekas & Associates, Inc.  The companypublishes the monthly Western Cowman magazine and Angus, The Magazine.  They also run one of the most progressive sale management firms on the west coast.

Mercedes excelled within the Junior Angus Association, she was a top scholarship winner, and she competed in the Miss American Angus contest, was elected to the National Junior Angus Board and went on to become Chairman of the Board.  Her participation in the Junior Angus Association was significant and was a great spring board for many other personal triumphs.  She graduated with a double major from the University of California, Davis and currently along with running the ranch has been able to pursue an active acting careerwhile also learning the casting business while serving as assistant to the top casting director in California.

Our family loves the work and lifestyle as well as the pitfalls that come with raising Angus cattle.  We value the friendships, joys, trials and tribulations that are all part of this business.  Our history is important and we believe in plays a large part in what our herd is and what the future holds.
